Ephesians 2:8-10

God saved you by his grace when you believed.

And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God.

Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.

For we are God’s masterpiece.

He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

This fifty-day period of time each year when we celebrate Easter is so important to our Christian development.  Easter is the essence of our true Christian nature.  Jesus's birth was a very important Christian event.  It was the day when God sent His only Son, in human form, to live, work, and teach among us.  The circumstances surrounding His birth taught us much about faith and obedience.  Having said all of that, God provided no salvation or forgiveness of sins through His Son's birth.  It is through the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus, that we receive eternal life.  This is the reason that most Christians consider Easter the most important time in the scope of everything God has done for us.  In our Scripture today, Paul is talking to the Ephesians and explaining that God's grace is responsible for their salvation.  There is nothing we can do to earn God's grace.  We can't claim "ownership" for the graceful things God does for each of us, every day.  The great paradox of Christianity is that we, who deserve hell, are given heaven through Jesus Christ.  God is not giving salvation to us as a reward.  There is not a list of things that we must do to achieve this "honor."  We are not able to boast that we somehow deserved our salvation.  As a matter of fact, the only thing we must do to receive God's grace is believe in Him and accept His Son Jesus Christ as our personal Savior.  Jesus did not tell us, as He ascended to be with God the Father, that we deserved a place in heaven and He was leaving earth so He could go turn our bed down and put mints on the pillow, because we had earned enough "frequent flier miles" to entitle us to this kind of service!  No, Jesus told us He was going to prepare a place for us in heaven.  Did we earn this place?  No, God's grace made the reservation and our faith in Jesus Christ, as He died and rose for us, paid the "Heavenly hotel bill" in full!  Paul then tells us who we are.  Don't miss this and write this down and read it to yourself every day.  We are God's masterpiece.  We are the pinnacle of God's creation.  As we are reborn in Christ, God gave us all the necessary tools to execute all the things He has wanted us to do since the beginning of time.  Did I mention that you are God's masterpiece?  If you truly embrace this concept, you will never be suicidal, depressed, frustrated, angry, envious, or jealous.  How could we be any of these things if we are God's masterpieces?  We will take care of our bodies.  We will not become addicts to things that are harmful to God's masterpieces.  We will not harm other masterpieces of God.  Easter time teaches us much and we should embrace all of it before the day of Pentecost arrives.  After all, it is truly the essence of how God feels about us and how we should feel about God.  Take a long look at your life and ask yourself this question.  How Is God's Masterpiece doing today?
