James 1:6-8

But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone.

Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea

That is blown and tossed by the wind.

Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.

Their loyalty is divided between God and the world,

And they are unstable in everything they do.

Divided loyalty.  Yes, the Bible speaks about it several times.  James is clear with all of us about what we should expect from God when our loyalty is divided between Him and the world.  Nothing is what we should expect.  At this point, some of you may be thinking that those are pretty harsh words from our loving God.  Nothing is fair when we profess that we are Christians, but there are some "rules" that we must obey.  Remember the one about loving God with all your heart, soul, and mind?  How about the one that states we will have no other gods before our God?  Have we ever stopped to think what those words truly mean?  The Bible tells us to accept Christ as our personal Savior, be baptized, and join and serve a local New Testament Church.  Those that continue to put off baptism or "church hop," are displaying divided loyalty to God.  On many different levels, the Bible tells us that we can't serve two masters.  If the world, and what it has to offer, is what we desire, we can't follow God.  The two are in complete conflict with each other.  The world preaches "ME!"  God preaches "WE!"  The two simply cannot co-exist in the same place.  Every exceptional sports team through history has always had a "we" concept, rather than a "me" concept.  While some have more talent, it still requires a team to be successful each and every year.  That is the way it is with God.  He expects us all to be team players with undivided loyalty.  That is why Joshua announced to everyone that they should choose this day.  Then he proclaimed that there would be no undivided loyalty in his presence.  "As for Me and My House, We Will Serve the Lord."
