Colossians 1:25-27

God has given me the responsibility of serving his church

By proclaiming his entire message to you.

This message was kept secret for centuries and generations past,

But now it has been revealed to God’s people.

For God wanted them to know that the riches and glory of Christ are for you Gentiles, too.

And this is the secret: Christ lives in you.

This gives you assurance of sharing his glory.

Are we Christians ready for this revelation that Paul shared with the Colossians?  I am sure I will upset many "traditional" Christians by saying, "absolutely not!"  It should come as no surprise to any of us, that have spent much time in churches, that true "welcoming" rarely exists.  New Testament Churches are often founded on the same principal as social clubs.  There is no diversity and all that attend are basically comfortable with the same lifestyles and social characteristics.  Some mainstream denominations even institute "rules" that are designed to exclude people, rather than build the Family of God.  Paul tells the Gentiles that for a long time their inclusion in God's Kingdom has been kept a secret.  My question is who kept the secret?  It certainly wasn't God that was not telling people about salvation!  It certainly wasn't Paul!  No it was all of us "preferred" Christians that wanted to keep our little "clubs" and "reserved seats" in tact.  We can't just talk about evangelism.  Evangelism is a daily action that all Christians should embrace.  All of our churches should look like heaven will.  We must include different ages, sexes, races, and social classes.  We are all God's children and that cannot just be a catchy phrase or bumper sticker material.  God meant for us to live together in one accord, breaking bread together daily in the temple.  Let's be like Paul.  Let's tell the world, and that means everyone.  "Jesus Should Be Our Only Membership Card!"
