Philippians 4:4-9

Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again—rejoice!

Let everyone see that you are considerate in all you do. Remember, the Lord is coming soon.

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything.

Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.

Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand.

His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing.

Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable.

Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.

Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me—

everything you heard from me and saw me doing.

Then the God of peace will be with you.

Do we really rejoice in the Lord always?  I believe if we are all honest with each other, we would probably say no!  Listen to the sermon today to hear my full explanation of what God has to say about joy and peace.  For the purposes of this devotion, let's just say that the world has spoiled the word "joy" for all of us.  We have reduced God's joy and peace to some kind of Hollywood emotion.  The worst thing about the watering-down of God's joy, is that it is never long-lasting.  Worldly joy is for but a passing moment.  All to often, Satan creeps into our temporary joyfulness, and turns it around to anger, envy, jealousy, or lust.  We become very unfulfilled and are never satisfied with what we have.  This is why our lives are so chaotic.  There is an absence of God's peace.  As we contemplate our life in Jesus today,  let's do what the Scripture says and think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.  Only then can we truly experience God's Joy!
