Deuteronomy 20:1-3

“When you go out to fight your enemies and you face horses and chariots

And an army greater than your own, do not be afraid.

The Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, is with you!

When you prepare for battle, the priest must come forward to speak to the troops.

He will say to them, ‘Listen to me, all you men of Israel!

Do not be afraid as you go out to fight your enemies today!

Do not lose heart or panic or tremble before them.'"

In part two of our twelve-part devotion series entitled, "Be Prepared!" we turn to Moses and the law.  Today, we find Moses explaining to Israel the rules of war.  War has rules?  Yes, then and now!  Notice that Moses tells the troops that as they prepare for battle, the priest must come forward and speak to them.  Today we must deal with a concept that none of us wants to embrace.  God wants us to always be prepared for war.  When it is time, God sends us into battle.  Does that mean God ordains war?  We probably don't want to hear this, but the answer is "Yes!"  Sometimes it is necessary to go to war to preserve God's people.  This happened numerous times in the Old Testament and God was behind each battle.  Through eighteen chapters of Revelation, there is a war that God ordains and fights, through His Son Jesus Christ.  Lastly, as the largest Christian nation on earth, there are times in our American history when we have gone to war to fight on the side of God.  To not do so, would show our lack of faith in God's plan and our lack of preparation.  The United States has experienced, several times in its brief history, the benefits of preparation.  We have not gone to war many more times than we have, because we were prepared.  Our Godly preparation intimidated the ungodly.  Then when it is necessary to fight, we must listen to God first.  Both in military and spiritual battles, we will often find ourselves facing "armies" bigger than ours.  Moses tells us to not be afraid.  It is very good advice.  "No One Can Defeat God's Preparation and Purpose!"
