Hebrews 4:1-3

God’s promise of entering his rest still stands,

So we ought to tremble with fear that some of you might fail to experience it.

For this good news—that God has prepared this rest—

Has been announced to us just as it was to them.

But it did them no good because they didn’t share the faith of those who listened to God.

For only we who believe can enter his rest.

As for the others, God said,

“In my anger I took an oath: ‘They will never enter my place of rest,’”

Even though this rest has been ready since he made the world.

In part eleven of our twelve-part devotion series entitled, "Be Prepared!" we turn to the writer of Hebrews to explore the complicated subject of God's Sovereignty.  Our Scripture points this out in a big way for all of us to see and hear.  Yes, God is in control and has prepared our place of "rest."  We have known about this blessing forever.  God announced it to the first prophets in the Old Testament.  We can certainly count on God's preparation.  Now comes the big problem.  Many of us do nothing to assist God in His plans for us.  All of us would rather sit around and wait for a miracle.  Maybe God will double what we have today. After all, isn't God in charge?  He most certainly is and often He is waiting on us, particularly when tragedy strikes.  Often God does not "fix" things.  He uses ugly situations as tools for us to develop His plan in our lives.  Notice our Scripture says that the people who don't have faith in God, will never have a place of rest.  As many of you that know me are aware, I don't sleep much!  Most often, when I am obedient, I am always at "rest" and peaceful.  We must let God be in control, but He expects us to act on His behalf.  In the parable of the talents, the two servants that received the master's blessing were those that went to work and doubled what they had and brought it back to the master.  The one, who simply kept what he was given, was cursed by the master.  Moses was blessed, but He had to go to Pharaoh and confront him.  Be happy with God's plan.  Know that God is in charge, and  "We Must Run the Race If We Want to Rest!"
