Psalm 40:4-6

Oh, the joys of those who trust the Lord,

Who have no confidence in the proud or in those who worship idols.
O Lord my God, you have performed many wonders for us.
Your plans for us are too numerous to list.
    You have no equal.
If I tried to recite all your wonderful deeds, I would never come to the end of them.

You take no delight in sacrifices or offerings.
Now that you have made me listen, I finally understand—
You don’t require burnt offerings or sin offerings.

In part four of our six-part devotion series entitled, "Wonders in Wonderland!" we learn what happens when we finally listen to God.  Notice that joy follows trust, not the other way around.  Those of us who turn our lives over to Jesus completely, discover true happiness.  To do that, we must shed all of the "idols" we tend to worship.  This includes, but is not limited to, our time, talent, and treasure.  No more can we claim that we simply "don't have time."  If we are truly giving our "first fruits" to God, we always have money for Him and His work.  It is the car payment or the extra "things" we buy that we need to shed from our lives.  God performs many amazing wonders in our lives every day.  Without this trust and focus, we will miss most of them completely.  If we tried to recite what God gives us daily, the list would never come to an end.  Now for the most important part of our Scripture today.  God does not require "burnt or sin" offerings.  We will not discover this fact until we truly let God make us listen.   Notice that the psalm writer says he finally understands.  Do we?  From my perspective as a pastor, I would say that we don't.  Most of us have our lives dictated by fear or anger, most of the time.  These are Satan's tools for removing, and blocking, the love and joy of God in our lives.  Today let's REALLY listen.  Let's get both of our feet "inbounds" when it comes to obeying God.   In our prayer time today, let's ask God to make us listen.  Let's remove the doubt, fear, and anger from our lives so that we can truly understand.  Let's do what Jesus said to do when the Pharisees questioned Him intently.  "Give To Caesar What Is Caesar's and Give God What Is God's!"
