Psalm 17:6-8

I am praying to you because I know you will answer, O God.
Bend down and listen as I pray.
Show me your unfailing love in wonderful ways.
By your mighty power you rescue those who seek refuge from their enemies.
Guard me as you would guard your own eyes.

Hide me in the shadow of your wings.

In part thirteen of our eighteen-part devotion series entitled, "Sharing God's Love!" we begin to deal with the stark reality that not everyone embraces God's love through us and our efforts.  Over the past two weeks we have explored God's love.  We have discovered how God loves us unconditionally.  We have discussed how to apply that love to our neighbors and how important unconditional love is in our walk with Jesus.  We have developed practical ways to share God's agape love with others.  This week, we will discover what many of us already have painfully experienced.  When we share God's love with some, they reject us and God.  These are the people that the Bible calls our enemies.  David cries out to God for Him to hear his prayer.  David explains that he is praying to God because he knows that God will listen.  As we go to God in prayer, can we proclaim the same thing?  Are we sure that God will listen?  We should be, as He told us that He would!  God even sent us our own "prayer intercessor" in Jesus Christ, through whom we pray.  David graphically tells God to "bend down" and listen to his prayer.  What is David praying about?  David is praying to God to deliver him from his enemies.  David seeks God's unfailing love and takes refuge under God's wings.  He asks God to make it so personal that He would protect him the same way as He would protect His own eyes.  We can learn much from King David.  First, recognize that we have enemies that have rejected God's love, and ours.  We must pray for them.  We must also be aware that because they have rejected the love of God, they will attack.  The only way to win that battle is to call on the power of God.  We must seek refuge in Him and nowhere else.  He alone has the power to deal with our enemies.  If we attempt to "fight" these enemy battles by ourselves, we will lose.  Don't let Satan deceive you.  "Only God Can Defeat Our Enemies!"
