Hebrews 11:33-35

By faith these people overthrew kingdoms, ruled with justice,

And received what God had promised them.

They shut the mouths of lions, quenched the flames of fire,

And escaped death by the edge of the sword.

Their weakness was turned to strength.

They became strong in battle and put whole armies to flight.

Women received their loved ones back again from death.

But others were tortured, refusing to turn from God in order to be set free.

They placed their hope in a better life after the resurrection.

In part three of our six-part devotion series entitled, "God vs. Satan...the Real Super Bowl!" we turn to the unknown writer of Hebrews to find out about God's soldiers.  Notice that the battle was waged by the people, on behalf of God, by faith.  They received all of what God promised them.  They won each battle at every level, whether it was against lions, fire, or the sword.  Their weaknesses were turned into strengths.  By the way, that means they had weaknesses!  Women no longer lost their sons, husbands, and brothers in battle.  Those that were captured refused to turn from God.  As a result, they were tortured and put their faith in the resurrection.  What an incredible picture of faith in God and how the battle belongs to Him.  We must never forget that.  First, we have no choice.  We must fight the battles and the ultimate war.  As Bible-believing Christians, there is no option of walking away and hiding.  We will fight all kinds of battles on many different battlefields.  If we are faithful, we will win them all.  Yes, I said that, because the Bible says so.  We may not "win" from our perspective, but God always wins through us.  Many of us will be spared a premature, earthly death.  Some of us will be "imprisoned" for our strong beliefs in and stance we take for Jesus.  A few of us may actually, "die" because of this strong belief, only to be redeemed by the blood of the Lamb.  Don't worry about our weaknesses or the feeling that we are not worthy.  God knows we are and He will turn our weaknesses into strengths, so that we can successfully fight His battle.  Stand tall and keep your faith strong.  "There Are No Atheists in Fox Holes!"
