Matthew 21:12-16

Jesus entered the Temple and began to drive out all the people buying and selling animals for sacrifice.

He knocked over the tables of the money changers and the chairs of those selling doves.

He said to them, “The Scriptures declare, ‘My Temple will be called a house of prayer,’

But you have turned it into a den of thieves!”

The blind and the lame came to him in the Temple, and he healed them.

The leading priests and the teachers of religious law saw these wonderful miracles

And heard even the children in the Temple shouting, “Praise God for the Son of David.”

But the leaders were indignant.

They asked Jesus, “Do you hear what these children are saying?”

“Yes,” Jesus replied. “Haven’t you ever read the Scriptures?

For they say, ‘You have taught children and infants to give you praise.’”

Please listen to the sermon as I expand on this necessary and difficult subject.  Please do not be a part of making your life or your church a "den of thieves."  Today's New Testament Churches have strayed a long way from what the Scripture says about money.  Our monetary gifts to God are to be done in secret and we are not supposed to make a show of them.  So, why do we parade people all over our sanctuaries, carrying offering plates?  Many pastors and church officials will have lots of answers and excuses for this.  If it is God's will and God ordains it, He will pay for it.  Money is never the problem.  Spirituality and discipleship are always the problem.  In our worship services, we simply place a basket in the back of the room and allow people to give any gift to God at their discretion.  We never mention it again and the gift is between the individual and God, as the Bible ordains.  Two-thirds of Jesus's parables were about money.  God knew we would get this subject wrong.  In today's Scripture, Jesus has had enough.  He removes the money changers and kicks them out of God's house.  He then heals the lame and acknowledges the praises of children for the miracles God has worked, through His Son Jesus Christ.  The chief priests ask ignorant questions and Christ quotes Scripture, which they should already know.  Like everything in God's Kingdom, we have a choice.  Let's make the Biblical choice and be a part of the solution, not a part of the problem!
