Jude 17-21

But you, my dear friends,

Must remember what the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ said.

They told you that in the last times there would be scoffers

Whose purpose in life is to satisfy their ungodly desires.

These people are the ones who are creating divisions among you.

They follow their natural instincts because they do not have God’s Spirit in them.

But you, dear friends, must build each other up in your most holy faith,

Pray in the power of the Holy Spirit,

And await the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will bring you eternal life.

In this way, you will keep yourselves safe in God’s love.

The entire book of Jude is twenty-five verses long.  Jude is writing to Christians that are being misled by many conflicting messages that are not Biblical.  Even though it is such a small book, our Scripture lesson for today could have been written this past week to all of us.  We experience lots of “scoffers” every day.  People constantly make light of the work we do for God.  Remember to not take it personally, but we must do something about it.  Notice that Jude reminds us that the purpose of these scoffers to satisfy their ungodly desires.  The pursuit of these ungodly desires creates divisions among all of us.  The only thing that prevents us from following these satanic influences is God’s Holy Spirit.  This is exactly why we spent over a week writing and reading devotions that reflected the necessity for God’s people to be indwelled by the Holy Spirit.  Listen to Jude’s admonition.  We need to build each other up in Christ.  This does not mean sappy lies and exaggerations.  We are to genuinely recognize God’s talents in each other and the fact that we are all unique creations made in God’s image.  Jude finally calls on us to wait on the Lord, which will keep us safe in God’s love.  Jude is one of the many writers of both the Old and New Testaments that warns us about false prophets.  As you walk through your life today, learn to recognize ungodly desires that will separate God’s people from each other and Him.  How do we fight these situations?  Be patient and wait on the Lord.  In the meantime declare, “We are United in Christ!!!”
