Revelation 20:13-15

The sea gave up its dead, and death and the grave gave up their dead.

And all were judged according to their deeds.

Then death and the grave were thrown into the lake of fire.

This lake of fire is the second death.

And anyone whose name was not found recorded in the Book of Life

Was thrown into the lake of fire.

In the conclusion of our six-part devotion series entitled, "Cleansing or Consuming Fire?" we turn to the end of times and the apostle John for some important words.  For those of us who have studied the book of Revelation, we know that most of the book is a battle between Satan and God.  We also know God wins!  In Revelation 20, John shares with us who loses.  Everyone whose name is not written in the Book of Life is thrown into the lake of fire.  Our final Scriptural example in this series is both cleansing and consuming.  Heaven and earth are both cleansed of sin by the fire.  Those that have condemned themselves are consumed by the fire.  Did I say condemned themselves?  Yes, I did.  God has given us a choice and free will.  When we choose to follow our own path, or the one suggested by Satan, we willfully turn our backs on God.  We choose.  No matter what justification or rationalization we use for our behavior, we choose.  Quoting Scripture, either in writing or verbally, does not absolve us from our choices nor does it make us holy.  Remember what Satan did as he tempted Jesus?  Satan was quoting Scripture.  He was claiming to Jesus that he was holy.  Jesus knew better and so should we.  Satan's actions did not match his words.  This chapter of Revelation says we will be judged by our deeds.  Here comes the truth that many do not want to hear.  We cannot both claim Jesus and Scripture and then turn around and attack, gossip, hurt, judge, lash out, or whisper.  We are not saved by works, but judgment in heaven will look to see that our deeds reflect our dissertations.  So, like Jesus, it is easy for us to see through false prophets.  Just watch their actions.  Christ's children will not be liars or deceivers.  Followers of God will not quote Scripture and then hurt people with their tongues or actions.  It is not for us to judge, but we must discern.  Be careful whom we follow and befriend.  Always remember, "The Lake of Fire Awaits!"
