Luke 12:29-31

“And don’t be concerned about what to eat and what to drink.

Don’t worry about such things.

These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers all over the world,

But your Father already knows your needs.

Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and he will give you everything you need.

In part two of our six-part devotion series entitled, "Is This What It Means to be a Father?" Luke tells us that our heavenly Father already knows all our needs.  What a comforting thought!  Here' s the problem with this passage of Scripture and why so many struggle with it.  What God the Father knows as our needs is often not what we think we need.  There is a big difference between wanting and needing and we Christians often do a very poor job of discerning which is which!  Do we really need everything we have?  As a pastor, I have very little by choice.  I don't own anything.  I don't take a salary from the ministry I serve.  The church provides me a place to stay and covers my basic living costs.  I have everything I need and more.  The reason people have trouble with giving to God their time, talent, and treasure is that most often our priorities are all wrong.  Several years ago I looked at my productivity for God and was not pleased at all.  Following God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, I changed the priorities in my life and now govern everything based on the criteria of Kingdom building.  In others words, is what I am doing building, serving, or glorifying the Kingdom of God?  If the answer is not yes, I stop doing it or get rid of it!  Is it really that simple?  Yes, but not easy.  I lost my income and all of my "friends."  Surprise!  I have new Godly friends and I apparently didn't need my income!!!  We need to learn our lessons well.  "Do We Need It or Just Want It?"
