Mark 6:7-11

And he called his twelve disciples together and began sending them out two by two, Giving them authority to cast out evil spirits.

He told them to take nothing for their journey except a walking stick—

No food, no traveler’s bag, no money.

He allowed them to wear sandals but not to take a change of clothes.

“Wherever you go,” he said, “stay in the same house until you leave town.

But if any place refuses to welcome you or listen to you,

Shake its dust from your feet as you leave

To show that you have abandoned those people to their fate.”

In part seven of our twelve-part devotion series entitled, "The Age of Miracles!" Mark records for us the commissioning of the disciples to do miracles.  Many people deny this fact or are simply unaware that Jesus gave the twelve this authority.  Once the disciples had witnessed Jesus perform many miraculous deeds, He sent them out to the Jewish people to do the same.  They were not permitted to take any of the essentials of the day on their journey.  They were only permitted to wear shoes, but had no extra clothes, food or money.  This made them dependent on God's people for help as they did miraculous deeds. This is where I glean my example as a pastor.  I take no salary and am completely dependent on God's people for my basic needs of food, clothing and shelter.  It keeps my mind and schedule free of worldly things that might distract me from focusing on God's work.  Jesus explains that the disciples should stay in the same house until they leave town.  This statement is written by Mark, the itinerate minister!  Then the most important statement is made that none of us want to hear or do, but it is Biblical.  When someone refuses us and Jesus Christ, we must shake the dust from our feet and leave.  By doing so, we are acknowledging God's free will and leaving these people to their own, self-created fate.  If we don't do this, we are left to focus on futile situations that will never be resolved and will get in the way of assisting and ministering to those who are saying "yes" to Jesus.  If that is what God says we should do, who are we to argue or disobey.  "A Large Part of Miracles is Obedience!"
