Hosea 14:8-9

“O Israel, stay away from idols!
I am the one who answers your prayers and cares for you.
I am like a tree that is always green; all your fruit comes from me.”

Let those who are wise understand these things.
Let those with discernment listen carefully.
The paths of the Lord are true and right, and righteous people live by walking in them.
But in those paths sinners stumble and fall.

Two people walking the same path do not always end up in the same place!  If you have ever done any hiking, you know this to be true.  There are many distractions along a given trail and the discipline and focus of the individual dictates how far one strays from the center of the path.  The prophet Hosea tells Israel that in today's Scripture.  Hosea speaks of one of the most difficult concepts in Christianity when he talks about discernment.  We need to be able to discern if it is God that is speaking to us.  By design, Satan often looks and sounds like God.  When we are righteous, we live by walking God's trail.  When we have perpetual sin, we stumble on God's path and are easily distracted.  As a pastor, focus is extremely important and, on many days, difficult.  My day changes every hour as I serve God's people in need.  I must discern if people are truly in need, or if Satan is trying to waste my time and theirs.  Fortunately, a vast majority of people that I get to shepherd are not time-wasters.  They are genuine Christians, working hard to discern God's will.  By determining God's will, we can then apply it directly to our lives and determine how God would like to use each of us.  Stay in the center of God's path.  Check your Biblical compass each day by reading these devotions and studying God's Word.  Fellowship with God's people daily and pray unceasingly.  By doing all these things, we will have a fighting chance of defeating Satan in our daily lives.  We must, "Display Discernment Daily!"
