Matthew 4:23-24

Jesus traveled throughout the region of Galilee, teaching in the synagogues

And announcing the Good News about the Kingdom.

And he healed every kind of disease and illness.

News about him spread as far as Syria,

And people soon began bringing to him all who were sick.

And whatever their sickness or disease,

Or if they were demon possessed or epileptic or paralyzed—he healed them all.

As a pastor, I have always been confused about our lack of understanding in the area of healing.  While Jesus did not reveal everything surrounding the miracles of healing, He certainly made it a huge part of His ministry.  Today we see Jesus healing in the synagogues.  Why would Jesus do such a thing when He knew it would be criticized by all the church officials?  I believe the answer to this question is embodied in our Scripture.  Notice that Jesus begins by announcing the Good News of God's Kingdom.  He doesn't begin with healing.  Remember that Jesus has just called James and John as disciples.  He has called them away from their father, right out of the family fishing boat!   They immediately leave their father and follow Jesus.  Everywhere Jesus went, there was a crowd teaming with curiosity.  Notice that several kinds of healing took place.  Some had everyday sicknesses or disease.  Some had chronic ailments like epilepsy or leprosy.   Others were "demon possessed."  Jesus healed them all, regardless of who they were.  Now for the why!  Jesus was sent to earth in the form of a human being so that God could be manifested among His people.  Part of the good news is that God heals, regardless of what our challenges might be.  Science has proven that much of our sickness can be thwarted by the mind.  We must want to be healed, as Jesus states it.  When Jesus ascended to prepare a place for us in heaven, He empowered us to teach, preach, and heal.  Let's not take any of these for granted.  The world says, "Heal thyself."  The Bible says that we must do the healing for each other.  Remember, "All Healing is in the Name of Jesus!"
