Mark 8:33-35

Jesus turned around and looked at his disciples, then reprimanded Peter.

“Get away from me, Satan!” he said.

“You are seeing things merely from a human point of view, not from God’s.”

Then, calling the crowd to join his disciples, he said,

“If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways,

Take up your cross, and follow me.

If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it.

But if you give up your life for my sake and for the sake of the Good News, you will save it.

In the conclusion of our two-part devotion entitled, "Pont of View!" we discover what Jesus had to say to Peter regarding his ill-advised comments.  In front of the other disciples, Jesus looks right at Peter and calls out Satan!  Jesus tells Peter that his point of view is all wrong.  He identifies that Peter is looking only through human eyes, not through God's eyes.  So, He deals first with Peter in front of all the disciples.  Jesus is not done!  He calls the entire crowd together and tells them that there is no room in God's Kingdom for selfish behaviors and desires.  Wow, do all of us really need to hear that!  So much of organized religion today is simply self-serving.  Many things that churches and pastors do, don't glorify God at all or build His Kingdom.  They simply please a group of believers.  For instance, why do some churches tell their members that they can't dance?  Does the Bible say that?  Why do some churches use no musical instruments?  Does the Bible say that?  Listen to Jesus when He says that if we try to hang on to our earthly lives, we will simply lose them.  If we give up our lives for Christ and the Good News, we will save our lives.  My challenge to all of us today is to only do what Jesus would do.  Let's not make rules in our churches that aren't Biblical.  Let's not be selfish.  Let's not try to hang on to anything but God.  Are we ready to answer the call?  If so, "Take Up Your Cross and Follow Him!"
