Romans 5:9-11

And since we have been made right in God’s sight by the blood of Christ,

He will certainly save us from God’s condemnation.

For since our friendship with God was restored by the death of his Son

While we were still his enemies, we will certainly be saved through the life of his Son.

So now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God

Because our Lord Jesus Christ has made us friends of God.

There is a popular Christian song that we sing at our church.  It is one of my favorites.  It is simply entitled, "Friend of God."  The chorus proclaims, "I am a friend of God!"  If we are not able to say this, we are missing out on the greatest gift Christ gave us through His death, burial, and resurrection.  Paul tells us in today's Scripture that Jesus made us friends of God. In the Facebook language of today, we are "besties!"  He is not only our Father, He is also our friend.  That should change our perspective on God and how we communicate with Him.  As I have gotten older, my parents have also become my friends.  So many parents make a big mistake when children are younger.  They try to be their friend first, and parent second.  Not only does this concept not work, it is not what a child needs.  When we are younger, we need a parent to advise, guide, and yes discipline, when needed.  As we get older, good parents become wise friends.  They lead by example and are our greatest encouragers.  God is like that.  When we are young Christians, we need God the Father and God the Son to advise, guide and discipline.  When we mature in our walk with God, we really need the Holy Spirit.  It is through the Holy Spirit that Christ has made us friends with God.  Before we accept Christ as our personal Savior, we are consumed with, and condemned by, evil.  It is our downfall until we finally and forever repent.  Be grateful that Christ restored our loving relationship with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  Walk around today shouting and singing, "I am a Friend of God!"
