Revelation 1:7-8

Look! He comes with the clouds of heaven.

And everyone will see him—even those who pierced him.
And all the nations of the world will mourn for him.
Yes! Amen! “I am the Alpha and the Omega—the beginning and the end,”says the Lord God.

“I am the one who is, who always was, and who is still to come—the Almighty One.”

As both a Christian and a minister, I am constantly amazed at our inability to understand the statements made in our Scripture lesson today.  There are simply things that God has chosen to not tell us, in His infinite wisdom.  We are constantly preoccupied with the "end of times," when it will occur, and all that surrounds this event.  There are countless books, television specials, and movies that have been created to dramatize, or attempt to explain, the events centered around Armageddon.  Why am I amazed?  We don't know when the end of times will occur!  Jesus, Himself, told us that we would not know.  This coming week will mark the Ascension of our Lord.  When Jesus left this earth, those that were left behind thought He was coming back the next day.  They scurried around making preparations, like what we do when vacation is approaching!   The problem for them, and us, is that Jesus has still not come back.  I am firmly convinced that we don't know when, because we couldn't handle it!  However, God did not leave us without instructions.  God, through His Son Jesus Christ, told us and them that we should work for His Kingdom, everyday until Jesus comes back.  That seems simple, so why don't we do it?  As you can imagine, I have an answer for that question!  Like a good business plan, execution must occur.  God has the plan.  We all know where we are going to end up as Christians.  The "word picture" of heaven has been painted clearly by many in the Bible, but John gives us great detail in the vision he receives, which is the book of Revelation.  We know what happens at the end of times.  We know who wins.  We know what we will see.  We know who is declared King.  We need to be content with the fact that we simply don't know when!  The danger of focusing on something we will never know, is that the execution of God's "business plan" never gets done by us.  I have run several businesses and been a part of many churches in my lifetime, and almost always, failure occurs when the people who are supposed to execute "the plan," simply don't.  These same people talk a lot.  They have numerous meetings explaining what should be done.  We spend large numbers of hours in corporate board rooms and church libraries "talking the talk."  When it comes time to execute the plan, the "walking" simply doesn't get done.  Today, let's stop focusing on what we don't know and implement what we do know and what we are commanded to do.  Let's go tell the world about Jesus every day until He comes back to get us and take us home.  We will then be able to execute this plan, as the instructions are few and ultimately clear.  We will never have an answer to the most popular Christian question of all time and we don't need one!  Stop asking "when?"  All we need to know is that God is the Alpha and the Omega!!!  We should work for His Kingdom and execute His plan.  He will take care of the rest!
