Romans 2:4-6

Don’t you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you?

Does this mean nothing to you?

Can’t you see that his kindness is intended to turn you from your sin?

But because you are stubborn and refuse to turn from your sin,

You are storing up terrible punishment for yourself.

For a day of anger is coming, when God’s righteous judgment will be revealed.

He will judge everyone according to what they have done.

I thought God forgot our sins.  How could we be storing up terrible punishment for ourselves?  What is this day of anger that is coming?  These should be thought-provoking questions in our lives, so let's answer them.  The day of anger is the Day of Judgment that each of us will face.  That is the day that God will judge us according to what we have done.  The answer to the second question is housed in the answer to the first question.  Doesn't God forget our sins?  Yes and no!!!  God forgets our sins when we ask for forgiveness from them.  When we truly repent, He forgets.  God is not looking for a simple "I'm sorry."  He is not looking for a guilt-driven apology.  God wants us to ask for genuine forgiveness from our sins and then TURN from them.  The last part is the hardest.  This is truly where we fall short and are possibly storing up terrific punishment on that Day of Judgment.  We can't fool God like we often fool man.  Our apologies are often very superficial and exist only to make peace that seems necessary.  We aren't truly sorry, and given the opportunity, we would do the same thing again.  Let's be careful of the promises we claim.  "God Only Forgets When We Truly Repent!"
