Hebrews 11:1-3

Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen;

It gives us assurance about things we cannot see.

Through their faith, the people in days of old earned a good reputation.

By faith we understand that the entire universe was formed at God’s command,

That what we now see did not come from anything that can be seen.

In part one of our three-part devotion series entitled, "Faith Can Move Mountains!" we turn to the unknown writer of Hebrews for a definition of faith.  We Christians certainly throw this word around a lot.   The one central theme we must understand about faith is that we cannot see it.  Faith is the confidence that what we believe and hope for will  actually happen.  All through Biblical history, the great men and women of faith always trusted God's plan that could not be seen.  Hebrews makes a list of these great people and reminds us of their incredible faith.  Abraham trusted God with his only son.  Noah built the ark and saw no water.  Moses led God's people to the edge of the water and saw no way out.  Joshua marched around Jericho with only shouts and songs.  Finally, Jesus went to the cross because His faith in God the Father was unstoppable by any man.  The writer of Hebrews reminds us of a central fact that we should never forget.  It all belongs to God because God created all we have.  We don't know how.  We can't see how.  We won't know how until we arrive in heaven.  We just know how it is because God said so to each of us, that is a believer.  So, what is faith?  It is one of the greatest gifts God has given us.  "Faith Makes All Things Unseen Possible in God!"
