Colossians 1:10-13

That you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him,

being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;

Strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power,

For all patience and long suffering with joy;

Giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers

Of the inheritance of the saints in the light.

He has delivered us from the power of darkness

And conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love.

Before you continue reading this devotion, please read the Scripture above several times.  Take it as a personal message from Jesus directly to you through the apostle Paul.  Not many people know a lot about the city of Colossae.  While it was located 11 miles from Laodicea on the main road from Ephesus heading east, by the first century it was described as a "small, third-rate town.  Being both a minister and Christian writer, one has to be so impressed and in awe of Paul on all levels.  He is a fully repented sinner, minister, church planter, teacher, and prolific writer.  So why does this great man of God, who writes more of the Bible than anyone else,  write a letter to a small third-rate town?  Spending time with the towns of Ephesus, Phillipi, or Thessalonica makes perfect sense.  They were huge epicenters in Paul's world.  I believe Paul saw great problems in Colossae and he wanted them to know that, small or large, they could have God's favor if they only took the time to learn, appreciate and execute what they have learned.    Paul apparently never saw this church (verse 4 and Chapter 2:1).  Read the Scripture above.  Doesn't it sound like Paul has been friends with the church at Colossae for years and God has fully embraced them?  The Bible does not tell us, but we can conclude that one of Paul's followers probably started this church during Paul's work in Ephesus.  Paul tells Colossae that to remove all conflict and problems they might have, they need to be worthy of the Lord, be fruitful,  learn more about God, be strengthened in His power and joy for building patience and long suffering, and give thanks.  Did you get all that?  Paul covers it all!  Look at the result if they/we do.  God will and has qualified them/us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light.  He has also delivered them/us from the POWER of the darkness and conveyed us into His Kingdom through His son Jesus Christ by love.  We need to notice that not only are we out of the darkness, God has delivered us from the power of the darkness.  Praise God!    Paul is speaking for Jesus to people who apparently have no significance to the earthly world.  Paul is taking his time to bring the Good News to Colossae.  Are you feeling insignificant today?  Does the world look at you as a third-rate person?  Are you struggling with the meaning of your life in God's Kingdom?  I lobby that all of us feel this way at times.  Paul's message is for YOU today.  Even the person that  the world views as insignificant, has great meaning to God.  Don't let Satan and the world convince you otherwise.  Be strong in God and bask in His joy.  Be fruitful for His Kingdom.  Enjoy your rich inheritance as you overcome  and celebrate God's victory from the power of the darkness.  You are a precious, significant child of God.  Be thankful, rejoice and know God's love!
