Joshua 24: 15

But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve...

But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

I must confess that this is my life verse.  I need to share what it means to me.  Understand the context in which Joshua speaks this phrase.  It means a great deal.  God has led his people through many conquests to the promised land.  The land has been divided up between the tribes and everyone has received what they were promised.  All of these people have seen many miracles.  The covenant with God has just been renewed at Shechem.  Joshua challenges the people to give up their pagan gods and serve only our God.  They say they will.  Joshua says, you say one thing and do another.  The people confirm this and pledge to serve God.  Joshua then proclaims that the people are witnesses to the promises they have made before God.  Are you serving other gods today but saying you are serving the one true God?  Are you ready to proclaim this verse for you and your household today?  This will mean changes in your life, probably big ones.  The Bible tells us we can't serve two masters.  As you proclaim this in your devotion and prayer time today, remember that God will remember your promise as He did with the Israelites and hold you to it!  As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
