Psalm 146:7-9

He gives justice to the oppressed and food to the hungry.
The Lord frees the prisoners.
The Lord opens the eyes of the blind.
The Lord lifts up those who are weighed down.
    The Lord loves the godly.
The Lord protects the foreigners among us.
He cares for the orphans and widows, but he frustrates the plans of the wicked.

In part three of our six-part devotion series entitled, "Lifting and Loving, "  David tells US that not only do we lift God up, God lifts us up.  What a way to start our day!  I love being a pastor and doing what I do every day.  Like all of you, I have things I really want to do and things I MUST do.  God's will can sometimes be hard.  That is not my idea, it is God's!  Abraham was asked to sacrifice his only child that God had provided, at the age of 100 years old.  Moses was asked to free all of God's people from Pharaohs' tyrannical reign.  Remember, Pharaoh was Moses's brother!  Noah was asked to build a huge ark in his front yard where there was no water!  Job lost everything proving that he would never deny God.  And then, there was Jesus who went to the cross, to die for us, even though He was without sin.  In light of all of these events in the Bible, and there are many more, knowing that God lifts up those who are weighed down is of great importance us!  Every time we act on behalf of God and are obedient, the Scripture says that the Lord loves us.  God opens the eyes of the blind, literally and figuratively, and sets us free.  God feeds us and provides justice to the oppressed.  Don't confuse God's justice with a Caesar court of law.  While there are attorneys and courtrooms that are truly seeking God's will, they are few and far between.  Most often our court system is plagued with greed and loopholes.  How marvelous it would be if every court case was motivated by God's justice.  As we all know, that simply is not true.  God is always just and we do not have to worry about His motives.  That is one of the main reasons we lift Him up!  Finally, celebrate the fact that God frustrates the plans of the wicked every day.  I know that sometimes it doesn't seem like it.  All of us have times when we believe the enemy is winning and we are destined to fail.  Don't give in!  Read Revelation often.  God wins!!!  Scripture says that God will continue to lift up those that are weighed down.  During our desperate days, we need to claim that promise loudly!  Love God.  Lift Him up.  Be Godly in all your actions.  As the apostle Paul said, "Keep running the race!"  If we do, the greatest possible event will happen to us daily.  "God Will Lift US Up!"
