Luke 13:23-25

Someone asked him, “Lord, will only a few be saved?”

He replied,  “Work hard to enter the narrow door to God’s Kingdom, for many will try to enter but will fail.

When the master of the house has locked the door, it will be too late.

You will stand outside knocking and pleading, ‘Lord, open the door for us!"

But he will reply, "I don’t know you or where you come from."

In part four of our six-part devotion series entitled, "Knock, Knock...God's There," Luke shares with all of us one of the toughest questions for us to understand in Christianity.  It has been the downfall of many Christians over the years.  The answer to our Scriptural question today has driven many people away from the church.  If God is such a loving God, then why would only a few be saved?  Isn't God going to save everyone?  Certainly, no one would be left out, correct?  The fact that we can be left out of God's Kingdom is an example of how much He truly loves us.  God is the example of perfect parenting.  As "infant" Christians, our Father warns us about the dangers that lie in our paths.  God gives us the perfect instruction, and commandments to live by, so that we can deal with the world that is ready to devour us at any second.  As we grow in Christ, God gives us the opportunity to choose happy or sad.  It is possible for us to call to God, through His Son Jesus Christ, and be indwelled by the Holy Spirit.  When we choose, our actions have consequences.  Jesus tells everyone what those consequences are by saying that once God has locked the door, it will be too late to change our minds.  Why would God do such a thing?  The answer is that God demands faith and obedience from all His children.  God expects a dialog daily.  If we choose to separate ourselves from God, He will honor our request.  Being a Christian is a two-way street!  If we don't do our part, God CAN'T do His.  Now you know the "rest of the story."  God is not being mean by excluding people from His Kingdom.  God is showing us how much He loves us by offering choices.  All we have to do to have eternal life is knock on God's door.  If we do, He will answer.  "If We Wait Too Long, It Will Be Too Late!"
